Tip from fed up

by fed up - 1 year ago

I signed up for Alliant Energy's Worry Free billing program. The letter indicated that I would save $3 per month by registering for this service. I signed and agreed not realizing that even if I move or pass away, Alliant Energy will continue to charge me for gas services that I don't even use for one year--full price. I can understand squaring up--making sure all is equal and the gas company recoups all its funds. But what I don't understand is why I would have to pay for gas I will not use as I am relocating to another state. I reported the abuse to the Utilities Commissin and Alliant Energy stands by its full 100% cancellation penalties. Even our federal lawmakers curbed cell phone companies from charging exorbinant early cancellation fees. How can Alliant Energy, a public utility, be allowed to carry out this heartless activity?
