“After being solicited to for months by Citi Card, I finally applied for the purposes of a balance transfer of about $8,000. I make decent money and have good credit history so I wasn't really concered about being accepted. After jumping through all their hoops and providing them with a good deal of information they don't need, they offered me a credit line of... $1,200 (which might have been nice when I was 20, but I'm 35 now and $1,200 barely covers rent in northern California). When I called them to inquire about raising the limit, they couldn't even access the account because I wasn't physically holding the card. They couldn't pull up my information in any way to discuss the account, but told me to call them back when I had the card in-hand. The last CSR I was transferred to did everything she could to get me off the phone so that we both didn't have to wallow in her obvious uselessness during that exchange. She congratulated me about 10 times on being accepted (for a card she couldn't reference) before cutting short my concerns with a "Thank you for calling and have--", ...and then she hung up. This is the first credit card I have ever planned to cut up upon receipt.
