My family and I were coming home from Orlando, Florida on Monday. We had received our original check in email the day before the flight, however we received no warning e-mail to give us the delayed flight update. When we arrived at the airport and tried to check in we were unable to check in at the Kiosk. When we asked for help we were told to go to another line. When we got to the head of the line the gentleman asked why we were there. We told him we were not able to check in. After he sent our bags off he told us we couldn't check in because our flight from Florida to Memphis was delayed. He then proceeded to tell us that we may miss our connecting flight. So he gave us the option to stay in Florida after he already sent our bags off or we could go to Memphis. We decided to proceed to Memphis. It was around 6:50 when we got off the plane. We asked the attendant at the gate where our connecting flight was at. I then asked him to call them and let them know we were on our way. He looked at me and said "their not going to wait for you." The way he said it was not the nicest. We then ran about a half mile to the gate of our connecting flight. According to my watch it was 7:00 pm when we got there. The flight was not due to leave until 7:05 pm. The woman at the gate told us they couldn't wait for us any longer. This was extremely frustrating. At no point did anyone offer to help us. I didn't realize we played a part in the delay of our plane. It was unbelievable how we were treated. Then as we were heading towards baggage we noticed a gentleman who was running late for his Delta flight. The attendant at the gate said we've been waiting for you and then he unlocked the door for the gentleman to board the plane. Obviously we don't get the same service. From the beginning we were pretty much given the message that missing our connecting flight was our problem not Delta's. It is incredible how poor the customer service is with Delta. They did provide us with a hotel room. The room was gross. It smelled of stale smoke. The bathroom was dirty and some of the shower parts were coming out of the wall. The restaurant had table cloths which were both dirty and stained. The service was poor and so was the food. The next morning when we checked in at the Memphis airport we were told that we did not have seats together. We were then told to speak with the person at the gate. My husband and I were traveling with our 7 and 8 year old. When we got to the gate I asked for us to have seats together. The woman told me she couldn't find seats together but we could sit close to our children. She then told me she couldn't just ask people to give up their seats for us. It is amazing. Both my husband and I have flown many of times. On several different airlines. In all our years of flying neither of us have had this poor of service. In our future travels we will not be choosing Delta. We have been in similar situations with other airlines and they have given out connecting gate information during the flight, asked passengers to give priority to the people departing with tight connections and have provided shuttle service to the connecting gate and have helped on board the plane to get families seated together. I saw none of this from Delta.
