“Duty/Tax free items just before boarding.. Watch out for Monarch's over zealous handling agents. All are obviously ex parking wardens with braid, in addition to chips on their shoulders.. Predominantly with IQ's of a jam doughnut without the filling. Insulting to them? Hope so! After all, any one of them who comes up to you at the boarding gate and tells you to put a 38cm bottle of spirits into what can easily be viewed as a 24cm long handbag, (or you don't get on the plane") is the initiating, insulting DoDo!
I'm sure they have developed an encyclopedia of "how to annoy the fare paying passengers" and get some great sense of ego exultation from their, assumingly, sense of authority. Please feel free to complain to their contractual employers, Monarch. Enough complaints on this subject matter SHOULD get them to review their policy with Athena and suchlike agents. Be pre-warned though... Monarch (allegedly), only review their "policies", every FOUR YEARS! Strange how the same handling agents do not perform these insukts against B.A. & Iberia flyers a the same airport? Alicante!
