~Idahoser: spoke with probably an American. Five minutes discussion and received authorization to take my water heater to Lowes for replacement. It's in the *th year of it's ** year limited warranty.*By the way I also had a problem with the electronic control of this heater when it was only a couple years old, they sent me a circuit board to replace which fixed it.*I have no complaints about Whirlpool!
