GetHuman: So how would you sum up your experience for GetHuman's American Express customer community? We'll censor any IDs, numbers, or codes and any inappropriate words here out of respect to the millions of other customers using this resource.
~DrTCH: This was very strange. DirecTV rejected my payment (I later learned I had slightly less on my "rewards card" than I realized). But, when I spoke to the AMEX people, they advised me that the payment was pending. Then, when I explained what happened and that there should have been no action on my card (as the transaction failed to be processed) they further advised me that I'd have an **day delay for that amount to return to my account. This is "no way to run an airline!!" When I have dealt with credit cards in the past..as a retail merchant and as a physician..a transaction either was processed, or it was not processed. No half-way. You, frankly, have a glitch in your system you need to remedy. I could understand a delay if this were a situation involving a dispute, but such is not the case here. As a matter of fact, I recently received an invitation to apply for an AMEX card. I am inclined to reject the offer, in light of this experience.
GetHuman: Let's quantify your experience contacting American Express. On a scale of 1 to 5, how easy is it go get help on a American Express problem?
~DrTCH: I'd give them a two out of five for ease of finding your way to help.
GetHuman: What about quality of communication. How would you rate that on a 1 to 5 scale?
~DrTCH: I'd give them a three out of five on communication.
GetHuman: And what about American Express's ability to quickly and effectively address your problem?
~DrTCH: For that I would say four out of five.
GetHuman: And finally- any advice for other American Express customers?
~DrTCH: Call them early in the day or late. Don't forget any personal or account information you might need for American Express to know who you are.
GetHuman: Well there you have it. Some useful feedback and words from ~DrTCH taken from his American Express customer service problem that occurred on November 12th, 2017.
