~ELLE: I purchased a Vanilla Visa gift card for my daughter's birthday (non re-loadable). She never received it in the mail. I have been trying for a day and a half to track it (if it were stolen) or replace it. All of the agents I spoke with said: "This is not a Visa card* our card numbers start with a *, and yours starts with a *". Umm ... yes, it clearly say 'Vanilla Visa' on my receipt. I was getting quite irritated! Thank goodness I happened upon this page! I was finally able to speak to someone with KNOWLEDGE and a dialect I could understand. Evidently, the number on my receipt is the reference number to the purcase of the card, not the actual card number. They will issue a new card (to arrive in *-** days), cancelling the old one. Amen! The agent advised: in the future, do NOT activate the card in the store. Open the card, call the number on the back and put it 'on hold'. The recipient can then activate the card once they receive it. Thanks for supplying a solution and an end to my
