~soda: The live chat agent seemed to try to help but could not solve the problem remotely. Our phone was dead for * days and we were told in a recorded message that a technician had been out to our house and determined the problem was internal - the wiring. I insisted they send someone else out to fix the problem because I thought that some outside workers had cut off our connection. The *nd technician found that is what had happened and he fixed it. So we were lied to about the cause and to "fix" the wiring would have cost us over $*** dollars.
